applicant must provide:
- The fulfilled and signed application
form (here available: ESR)
- A motivational letter
- A complete and signed Curriculum Vitae
written in English
- Copy of the ID card or Passport
- Two recommendation letters written by
academics (including contact details of the recommenders)
- Additional optional documents (e.g.
driving and/or diving licenses where required, language certificate,
courses attendance certificates, etc.)
Each applicant can send only one
application form, where ESR may
indicate two possible positions.
All documents should be provided in PDF by email to MMMPA secretariat (info@mmmpa.eu).
Additional requirements may be asked by each employer as well as from universities where PhD positions will be available.
Admission requirements
Early-Stage Researchers
(ESR) must, at the time of recruitment by the host organisation, be in
the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers
and have not yet been awarded a doctoral degree. This is measured from the date when they obtained the degree
which would formally entitle them to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which
the degree was obtained or in the country in which the research training is provided,
irrespective of whether or not a doctorate is envisaged.
Experienced Researchers
(ER) must, at the time of recruitment by the host organisation, be in possession of a doctoral degree or have at least
four years of full-time equivalent research experience. They must also,
at the time of recruitment by the host organisation, have less than five
years of full-time equivalent research experience.
Conditions of Mobility of Researchers
(both ESR and ER)
Researchers can be of any
nationality. They are required to undertake trans-national mobility
(i.e. move from one country to another) when taking up their
appointment. One general rule applies to the appointment of researchers:
At the time of recruitment by the host organisation, researchers must
not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc)
in the country of their host organisation for more than 12 months in the
3 years immediately prior to the reference date. Short stays such as
holidays and/or compulsory national service are not taken into account.
Note that the mobility rule applies to the partner where the researcher
is recruited, and not to partners to which the researcher is seconded.
Selection
procedure &
criteria
Eligibility
check: In a
first phase all applications will be checked on their technical
admission requirements (such as required documents, diploma &
language requirements and the recommendation letters). In case
candidates do not fulfill these requirements they will not be
academically reviewed. This preparatory phase of selection is organised
by the MMMPA secretariat. Evaluation:
The applications for ESR (36
months) and ER (6 months) positions will be examined according to a
two-step procedure:
1st step: The application form will be evaluated according to
several criteria:
- scientific quality (academic results, technical proficiency);
- ability to carry out an individual project;
- potential for excellence;
- motivation to thematic and geographical mobility;
- quality of reference letters.
According to these criteria, applicants with status A will then be
invited for an interview at the chosen employer seat (2nd step), whereas
applicants with status B will not.
2nd step (applicants with status A): The applicant's interview
will be evaluated with criteria related to:
- quality of the oral presentation;
- interest shown by the applicant during the position presentation, the
lab visit and the final discussion.
For applicants
coming from
far away can be
arranged a telephone
or skype
interview. The
evalutaions will be performed by concertation inside the scientific
committee, composed of the MMMPA co-ordinator, the employer supervisor,
a PhD supervisor (if different from the employer supervisor), and a team
of 3 experts chosen by the employer supervisor. In some cases, further evaluations from local PhD commissions may be needed.
